The R 1200 GS is THE GS. It founded the dual-sport motorcycle segment – and is still leading it confidently today.
The diversity – roads, cross-country, urban, countryside, comfort, performance – combined with the legendary robustness and the expertise from over 36 years of GS development result in a motorcycle which shies away from no competitors. A great many test triumphs and awards in technical magazines provide impressive proof for this. And it's not by accident that "the GS" is the top-selling motorcycle above 600 ccm.
The new model goes one better: both in terms of its touring suitability and off-road performance. More comfort, more dynamics and more fun.

The engine – indescribable.

Tried, tested and proven under the highest strain again and again: the twin-cylinder boxer engine with 125 HP (92 kW).
It is efficient and has very high torque – for noticeable riding enjoyment in any situation. And yet the boxer is not only legendary for its reliability. It is also extremely good-natured. The wet clutch with anti-hopping function and the electric throttle facilitate a fine dosage of power. Why not try it out on a test ride?

The handling – unmatched.

The firm main frame with the engine as a supporting element ensures a low centre of gravity and in turn alleviates handling while at the same time retaining enormous lane stability. The paralever and telelever suspension elements enable a perfectly tuned damping performance on any terrain.
And with the new electronic riding assistances like the reworked ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), the R 1200 GS once again sets benchmarks for riding enjoyment at the touch of a button.

The riding modes Rain and Road as well as the automatic stability control (ASC) are fitted as standard, to adapt the motorcycle to optimally suit the circumstances.
The optional accessory riding mode Pro provides even more scope for adjusting the handling to your personal riding style (e.g. Enduro and Dynamic). Hill Start Control makes it easier to start on a slope and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), which also sensitively intervenes when in a lean, ensures safety and riding dynamics.
ABS Pro also helps when leaning to apply the brakes in doses and in so doing, diffusing hazardous situations. The dynamic brake light warns traffic behind in case of reflex braking.

Personalisation – irreplaceable.

One thing always remains the same: robust, dynamic and full of character. New paint finishes and high-quality surfaces also highlight the striking GS design. And this is a good thing.
But whether it's elegant tank trims, front wheel spray protection, GS mouldings or new frame and body colours – the R 1200 GS has never been as diverse as this.
And the styles are new as well. The Exclusive style adds visual highlights and places the focus on a confident appearance with high-quality materials and details.
The Rallye style does exactly what it says on the tin, and ambitioned off-road riders certainly get their money's worth.
In addition, there is an extensive range of optional accessories, including Keyless Ride, useful off-road accessories, and even luggage systems – to better adjust the GS to your own desires.

The waterproof softbag is secured to the passenger seat and provides 14 litres of storage space with an option to extend it to 18 litres ‒ just the right size for, e.g. the daily commute and day trips. It is also the perfect way of expanding the storage space provided by the tank bag.

The display features a circular polarization filter (CPOL) that minimizes reflections while improving the contrast and guarantees optimal readability even in direct sunlight. Experience new routes and destinations using the "Curvy Roads“ planning option, the "Avoid larger main roads“ feature, and the "Round trip“ function for round trips by time, distance or intermediate destination. To help you enjoy the best views along the way, the "Natural Guidance" prompts provide you with a precise description of the surrounding area. You set the soundtrack for your journey: with Bluetooth technology and the new "Music Streaming" feature you can listen to titles stored on your smartphone. Be the director and control compatible "Action Cams" directly from the navigator.
The optional "Smartphone Link" app will keep you up to date with real-time traffic information and weather predictions. The "4-Button Mount" facilitates a convenient operation of all relevant functions during the journey.

The Navigator V with the large 5" TFT colour display is the perfect electronic scout for committed bikers. The BaseCamp software lets you plan your favourite routes down to the very last detail. Pick the quickest or the shortest route, or go with the "twisting roads" option if you prefer the most exciting. The smartphone link app option for traffic information in real time plus weather forecasts tells you exactly what you need to know right when you need it. TTS navigation announcements with detailed descriptions of your surroundings will keep you informed about everything around you on your chosen route. Bluetooth technology and the optional BMW Motorrad communication system transmit routing instructions straight to your helmet by wireless link, and you can use the handsfree function for phone calls.

Map data come pre-installed, and you have lifelong free updates.

Each package gives the R 1200 GS a completely special character trait. Together with the wide range of motorcycle fittings available from your dealer, the GS becomes your GS.

Dynamic package – unstoppable.

The dynamic package ensures the sporty components. The R 1200 GS receives its dynamic character both visually and functionally. In doing so, the latest generation of technology ensures the right grip on any terrain and impressive agility in any riding situation.

The dynamic package comprises the following components:

Comfort package – indispensable.
