The BMW R 1200 GS – the icon of all travel enduros. For 32 years “the GS” has been defining its segment and has proved to be the trusty companion on any motorcycle adventure. BMW Motorrad is now embarking on a new chapter of its success story and is yet again perfecting the icon R 1200 GS.

One R 1200 GS. One Feeling – Power in every situation.
Powerful, refined, and high revving. The R 1200 GS is powered by a new two cylinder opposed twin engine design delivering 125 hp (92 kW). Based on a new concept of combined air and liquid cooling and vertical flows through the cylinders, the engine operates efficiently, reliably, and with high torques at all times. Further improvements like the new wet clutch with antihopping feature, the electromotive throttle actuator E-Gas, and the optional “riding modes” make the opposed twin engine the perfect drive solution at the heart of the new R 1200 GS.

One R 1200 GS. One Emotion – Supreme control
The new R 1200 GS is ready for any terrain, thanks to the greater rigidity of its main frame and its enhanced Paralever and Telelever for even greater enduro steering accuracy. The optional Dynamic ESA configures the suspension automatically to the terrain and load state. The GS provides even more functions with the optional “riding modes”, a set of four different configurations that can be retrieved at the push of a button.

At first glance, the “new one” too is a genuine GS: robust, dynamic, and full of character. Revised surfaces and a perfect finish underscore its high quality character. The new cooling concept was integrated seamlessly into the distinctive design, and the visual emphasis moved to the front. The new R 1200 GS now gives the impression of more balance and power. Thanks to its extensive range of options, the R 1200 GS is absolutely unique. With an innovative, unique LED headlamp, cross spoke wheels, and the three extensive equipment variants, everyone can convert this enduro into “his” GS.

One World. One R 1200 GS – The ride of your life.
At the launch of the new R 1200 GS, BMW Motorrad will be setting a unique test ride in motion. In a “One World. One R 1200 GS.” event, BMW Motorrad will be sending five enduro adventurers on the redefined icon R 1200 GS on five tours all around the world. The first of its kind in the world, this project will be putting “the new one” to a gruelling test – and, with a little luck, give you too the opportunity for the tour of your life.

Flexible division of the space available inside the tank rucksack.
- Flexible outer ring, with adjustable by Velcro-type fastener.
- Flexible interior compartmentalisation consisting of two long and six short flexible wall inserts, each with a Velcro-type fastener at both ends. The wall inserts offer the opportunity to divide the interior flexibly into smaller compartments.
- Flexible cover. Depending on the height of the rucksack, even larger, flat objects (such as e.g. maps) can be stowed above the vario insert.

LED flashing turn indicators

Attractive flashing turn indicators on stalks, with state-of-the-art LED technology.
White turn indicator glass with 2 LEDs per turn indicator.
Enhanced safety on the road, provided by virtually zero-wear LED lights.
Considerable reduction in current drain:
- The flash frequency has to be changed when LED turn indicators are fitted. In BMW Motorrad 's case this takes place via the CAN bus; all other aftermarket LED flashing turn indicators require the installation of a resistor (which means there is no reduction in power consumption).

Footbrake lever, adjustable

Brake-lever pedal now wider and height-adjustable at the hinge mechanism.
- Hinged, double-size footplate patented by BMW.
The footbrake is easier to use and control when the rider is standing on the pegs.
- Adjusting the height is a no-tools operation; the rider flicks the footplate down before riding off.

Front footrests, adjustable

High-quality forged footrests, anodised gold finish.

Paddock Stand

Paddock Stand for rear wheel swinging arm, made of strong rectangular-section special-steel tubing, welded.
For lifting the motorcycle quickly and holding it securely in position.
Universal for many BMW Motorrad models (K2x, K4x, K71, K50).
How it works: The tubular holder of the Paddock Stand is simply pushed through the hollow rear axle and pressure is then applied to the lever to lift the rear wheel. An adapter is used to fit the diam-eter of the tubular holder to that of the rear axle.
